WHEELCHAIR-ACCESSIBLE RIDES

More access. Less uncertainty.

Wheelchair transportation can be requested for appointments, recurring visits, hospital discharge or a planned outing. Include the passenger’s pickup and destination needs so the route and assistance can be discussed together.

Plan a ride for a passenger who needs to remain in a standard wheelchair during transportation. We review the equipment and pickup conditions before confirming the vehicle.

For an emergency call 911

AmeriCare provides non-emergency transportation. If you or the passenger is having a medical emergency, dial 911 immediately. Do not use this website or a quote or ride-request form to request emergency assistance.

Help us match your needs

Tell us whether the wheelchair is manual or powered, its approximate dimensions, and any equipment limits we should review. Share whether the passenger can transfer, whether a companion will travel and what assistance is needed at pickup.

Access matters at both ends

Door-to-door and door-through-door service should be planned for both locations. Tell us if the passenger needs help from inside a building, whether an elevator is available and which entrance is accessible. Steps and other barriers must be reviewed before the trip.

Describe steps, elevators, ramps, narrow entrances and any other obstacles at the pickup and destination. Do not assume stair assistance is included; the team must confirm what can be accommodated.

Assistance for your journey

We offer door-to-door and door-through-door service, including assistance from the passenger’s door to the vehicle. A caregiver or family member can ride along; let us know when booking so we can arrange seating.

AmeriCare is licensed to operate within the state of Maryland. Each of our drivers is trained and certified in CPR and First Aid.

Trips you can request

For a return journey, explain whether the passenger will return to the original pickup location or another address. A caregiver or family member can ride along; provide the companion count when requesting your booking.

Appointments

Scheduled medical visits, dialysis and rehabilitation.

Discharge

A coordinated trip home or to another destination after the facility confirms readiness.

Return journeys

Round trips and wait-and-return arrangements agreed before pickup.

Let’s plan your next ride

Have the pickup address, destination, travel date and appointment arrival time ready. We accept all major credit cards and cash; insurance and Medicaid are not accepted. For a same-day request, call 240-640-1212.

Tell us where you’re going, when you need to travel and what assistance you need. AmeriCare will confirm availability, the fare and pickup details before your trip.
